Doing Business in Latin America
This is an intensive program that addresses two separate but related issues that are absolutely essential for successfully conducting business in Latin America: survival Spanish and cross-cultural training. Utilizing phonetic encoding, participants learn functional Spanish skills to survive in a Latin American setting. In addition, they are taught to identify and overcome the fifty most common cultural barriers encountered by U.S. business personnel when dealing with Latin Americans. No prior knowledge of Spanish necessary.
· Greet, Welcome, and receive guests and visitors
· Excuse oneself in a variety of settings
· Count to 1000
· Read a menu and order food and drink
· Ask for a cab and give directions to taxi drivers
· Request a room and services at a hotel
· Request an interpreter, medical doctor, dentist or police
· Employ language etiquette such as “thank you,” “please”, “you are welcome”
· Say goodbye to and wish guests and visitors well
· Compliment people, food, and physical facilities
· Go shopping, price objects, and barter
· Identify oneself by name, nationality, and company
· Ask for help and directions
· Descriptors: colors, clothes, identifying features, physical characteristics, nationalities
· Pronounce people’s name and their company’s name correctly
